Music For The Health of It is the outreach program of the Shreveport Summer Music Festival. It is designed to take the arts to communities that normally would not have the opportunity to hear live musical events, because they are confined to their environments due to age, infirmity, or the inability to travel at night. In past years, this has included nursing homes, adult day-care centers, and retirement communities. Program expansion, begun in 2011, included children at the Shriner’s Hospital and the LSU Pediatrics Unit, and cancer patients at LSU. Concerts are publicized and free of charge to the audience.

Mr. R. Dennis Bennett was commissioned to review the Music for the Health of It initiative in the Shreveport-Bossier area and recommends options for the Board of Directors to enhance the benefits to the elderly community.  See the white paper, Music for the Health of It, which explains the goals and objectives of the initiative.

Contributions
Each year, the series is expected to total about twenty concerts. However, the need and demand are much greater than that, and our concert schedule is limited by the funds available. For all concerts, the therapeutic value of music is kept in mind. Music for the Health of It is funded through grants from the Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding Program, and by support from corporate and individual donors. Contributions toward this community service project are welcomed, and can be made through any board member or by mail to:
